Nachlat Binyamin Iris and Shelley
Iris and I became friends when we were both in Israel on Sherut La'Am (a volunteer program) after college. We were roommates for the summer in the mercaz klita in Kiryat Shmona. After the year, Iris married her Israeli boyfriend, Yossi, and stayed on in Israel, while I went back to UCLA. Iris and Dena (left) and Shelley and Iris at an art/craft fair on Nachlat Binyamin, a pedestrian street in Tel Aviv.

turtle
In the Ramat Gan zoo, a turtle eats a typical Israeli diet.

boa constrictor
A sign on the Boa Constrictor cage explains exactly why a boa constrictor can't eat an elephant. (If you want details, you'll have to go to the zoo.)
Qvaker bird
This bird is called "Qvacker" in Hebrew, Quaker in English. It is very noisy, hence the Hebrew name. It also shakes, hence the English.

Tel Aviv Beach Boardwalk, Tel Aviv
The Beach at Tel Aviv. People sit under those little gazebos to avoid the burning hot sun. On the boardwalk are lots of continuing games of chess and sheshbesh (backgammon) among people of all ages and ethnicities.

airport
Late, late Saturday night... going through security, going through customs, going through immigration, going through hassles, going home...

peace sign
I love these signs! They're everywhere in Israel, from graffiti on the sides of buildings to official signs like this one on a Tiberius beach. It's the last part of what Jews sing to the angels of peace every Friday night: Tzetichem L'Shalom - Go in Peace.
